A BIG BASH IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE SIGNING CEREMONY FOR NOVOTEL 1 BORNEO AND MERCURE WATERFRONT KOTA KINABALU
The BED entertainment outlet along KK Waterfront was transformed into an travel industry party venue to celebrate the birthing of Novotel 1 Borneo and Mercure Waterfront Kota Kinabalu.
Accor, the European leading and the world’s largest group in hotels and services, has signed with Merjuta Sdn Bhd and Sagajuta (Sabah) Sdn Bhd to operate the Mercure Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu due to open in December 2006 and the Novotel 1 Borneo to open by the last quarter of 2008.
Mercure Waterfront, Kota Kinabalu is an integral part of Warisan Square, considered one of Kota Kinabalu’s up-and-coming shopping projects. Built on prime seafront land, it offers spectacular sweeping views of the South China Sea and the bustling KK Waterfront. It takes up home at the central building of Warisan Square amidst a unique street mall bazaar which will be the next buzz centre of the city.
Once completed, the hotel will have 212 spacious guest rooms and suites with the most modern fittings and amenities. Facilities will be two meeting rooms, a trendy international restaurant, a rooftop café and bar, a coffeehouse, a lobby lounge and bar, a rooftop infinity pool with swim-up bar, fitness centre and state-of-the-art spa, and a business centre.
The Novotel 1 Borneo, Kota Kinabalu is part of the massive lifestyle project of 1 Borneo undertaken by Sagajuta (Sabah) Sdn Bhd as lead developer together with Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd as co-developer and United Sabah Islamic Association as landowner.
This hotel has 262 rooms which will appeal to the region’s fast growing leisure and corporate travel sector, targeting international and regional business travellers during the week and the Malaysian leisure market on weekends and holidays.
The hotel design incorporates many of the latest Novotel design features, including the innovative BIZ Executive Floor and BIZ Lounge concepts, targeting the chic & trendy and a new generation of young Asian travellers looking for modern, fashionable accommodation. Its presidential suite and suites will be of discerning modern style to be ahead of the trend.
It will also feature a coffeehouse and one specialty restaurant, lobby lounge and bar, 1,800sqm grand ballroom (with seating capacity for 1,300 persons) which is divisible into three separate rooms, three conference rooms, rooftop infinity pool, fitness centre and spa and a kids club.
This momentous event was witnessed by YB Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat, Deputy Chief Minister/Minister of Tourism, Culture & Environment and more than 500 travel industry professionals, bankers and project consultants. Other dignitaries at the ceremony were YBhg Datuk Monica Chia, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Tourism; YBhg Datuk Irene Charuruks, General Manager of Sabah Tourism Board; YBhg Datuk Dahli Mohd Elias, Secretary General of United Sabah Islamic Association and Haji Rahman Ghani, Chief Executive Officer of Warisan Harta Sabah Sdn Bhd.
From Sagajuta (Sabah) Sdn Bhd were Mr Raymond Chan, MD/Executive Chairman (who is also a director of Merjuta Sdn Bhd) and Mr Tan Tiang Lai, Director. Representing Merjuta Sdn Bhd was Mr Francis Wong, Director.
Accor was represented by Mr Patrick Basset, Vice President Operations – Singapore, Malaysia, Vietnam & Philippines; Mr Victor Pang, Vice President, Developments for Asia and Ms Fanny Rosmawaty, General Manager, Technical Services Asia. Members of the KK community were also invited to the party after 9.00pm.
